Belmar Block VII
Lakewood, CO

Belmar Block 7 is 1 acre of 62,477 sf of housing holding 62 units in configurations of flats and townhouses.  It is envisioned as affordable rental units for the workforce of Belmar. This block serves as a transition from the commercial mixed use districts to the residential neighborhoods of Belmar.

The design incorporates scale, massing, and materials similar to existing retail and residential with simple roof lines, strong masonry base and a broken down articulation of the massing of residential components. The courtyard is designed to be a sanctuary of sorts and serves to be a stark contrast to the urban setting along the perimeter.  The central design feature is a drainage canal that collects rainwater from the roof and courtyard.  This feature serves as a social element within the courtyard, providing various levels of social interaction through depressed courts, bridges, and various seating elements.
