East Leland Family Housing is a 63-unit affordable housing development. The project includes a mix of flats and townhouses in 3-story buildings.In addition there is a 50-child daycare facility, as well as common laundry, classroom, community room and administrative facilities. The project is configured around 3 large courtyards: the first one directly off of the day care with a tot lot as the focus, the second one directly off of the centrally located community room with a mix of hardscape and softscape surfaces, and the third one with mainly softscape surfaces. A strong connection between these outdoor spaces and the units is maintained through back porches and through living spaces such as kitchens which overlook the courtyards from the second floor. In addition, walkways and paths meander and interconnect all of these spaces making them easily accessible from any point on the site.
