Zoning Ordinance Update

The City of Palo Alto is preparing a comprehensive update of its Zoning Ordinance to reflect the policies of the City’s recently updated Comprehensive Plan. The objective is to incorporate innovative zoning techniques and a "form-based" design-oriented approach through the development of building and site planning design prototypes.

The first phase of work has been to analyze existing mixed-use and multifamily zoning standards through the development of prototypical design prototypes for a variety of site and development contexts (illustrated above). The next phase will be to recommend modifications to the Zoning Ordinance and develop new design prototypes that reflect current City policies and building types.
