| College Avenue Gateway Based on detailed traffic evaluation for both vehicular and transit movement changes as related to Reunification of Courthouse Square, the recommended and preferred Alternative Transit Route would necessitate that Healdsburg Avenue be returned to two-way traffic between 10th Street and College Avenue, with all northbound transit moving up B Street to Healdsburg and on to College. Currently, Healdsburg Avenue between College Avenue and 10th Street is a one-way, southbound street and carries all but Golden Gate Transit’s southbound busses that pass through the Study Area. Its connection to the College Avenue Gateway, and thus its extended relationship to Mendocino Avenue and to Courthouse Square means that the ultimate design of Healdsburg Avenue as either a one-way or two-way (recommended) street is the determinant element for the level of modifications necessary at the College Avenue Gateway, including a necessary realignment of Mendocino Avenue. If it is determined that northbound busses will remain or be re-routed to complete their movements to College Avenue on Mendocino, then there may be little need for traffic modifications at the intersection and improvements are focused more on pedestrian safety and “gateway” visibility. However, if it is determined that Healdsburg should be returned to two-way traffic for transit and/or general vehicular movement, then more significant modifications are required. |
