Transit Mall Enhancements

Transit Mall enhancements will provide a safer and more comfortable environment for passengers and contribute to its character and identity in Downtown. It is currently very active and appears to be well used by the community; but it lacks a strong pedestrian character, and its location adjacent to the parking garage and the “backs” of businesses results in a space that is activated solely by transit activity. At non-peak times it can feel vacant, dark, and unsafe, and its lack of visibility in the larger fabric of Downtown further contributes to this. Updated and additional lighting, modifications to the existing shelter structures, and a stronger relationship between the Transit Mall and adjacent uses will help to make the Transit Mall visible while establishing a stronger sense of place.
