Leland Avenue Streetscape Plan, San Francisco, CA The new streetscape develops along Leland Avenue between Bayshore Boulevard and Cora Street. Along with the overall design and planting scheme we paid attention to key intersections at Bayshore and at Peabody Street. The intersections are seen of special importance for many reasons: the intersection at Bayshore would become an entrance point to the avenue, the intersection at Peabody would become the heart of the new avenue, connected to the already successful Hans Schiller Plaza. Special attention is also given to the “typical mid-block” configuration and the “typical intersection” configuration.
One of the main goals of the new Leland Avenue streetscape design is the implementation of green, sustainable principles for street design. The new design proposes a system of stormwater management stations, located in the newly designed bulb-out areas. These planted areas are an opportunity both for beautification and environmental education and can be connected visually and thematically to the Visitacion Valley Greenway project.
