Affordable Housing Connected to Public Space


The Cleveland Avenue project is an effort to bring affordable housing to an underutilized plot of land alongside the I-580 and I-80 interchange in Albany. Tucked between existing homes and the interstate, the project is able to fit 60 units comprised of studios, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom units, all within the 1.13 acre site. The development will include in-building resident services, in-building laundry and bike storage, a community room and kitchen, as well as a lounge that both open to an outdoor courtyard, community garden and play space. This outdoor space, lined with screening trees, provides necessary outdoor recreation space and privacy for residents. At the rear of the property, project plans provide space for a future bike path connecting the site to a nearby park, and the surrounding neighborhood.
