2026 Affordable Housing Finance “AHF” Readers’ Choice Awards Finalists includes Ascent at Hover Crossing

It takes years, even decades, for a seedling to grow into a towering tree. Its roots have to take hold, it must weather storms, and it needs care to reach maturity. Affordable housing developments follow a similar path.

A single project often begins as an idea planted by developers, community leaders, or residents. Much like a tree, affordable housing requires patience, persistence, and nurturing before it can provide shelter and stability for generations to come.

Here are 40 projects that have risen in the past year from Alaska to New York, from the dirt roads of remote communities to the busy asphalt streets of the biggest cities. They are this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards finalists. Like a woodland rich with different species, these developments showcase the breadth of affordable housing, encompassing new construction, historic rehabilitations, and preservation efforts that serve families, seniors, veterans, formerly homeless individuals, and people with special needs.

The awards recognize affordable housing communities built in 2025 and 2026. They were selected from 173 nominations.

Voting takes place starting July 27 through Aug. 17. It is restricted to subscribers, and subscribers can only vote once.
