COMMUNITY  FEATURE: The Bay Area Young Architects (BAYA) Knowledge Community connects designers, students and newly licensed architects for networking, volunteer opportunities and social events. BAYA events are open to everyone engaged in the AEC industry. They welcome all non-licensed professionals and architects that have been licensed for less than 10 years in the Bay Area, regardless of their AIA local chapter affiliation.

Mission:

BAYA’s mission is to actively involve and empower emerging architects at every stage of their professional journey, from the pivotal moment of graduation through to licensure and beyond. They strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters learning, growth, and connection within the architectural community. Through their initiatives, they aim to provide young architects with opportunities to expand their knowledge, gain exposure to diverse practices within the Bay Area, and establish meaningful connections with industry professionals. By bridging the gap between education and practice, they seek to cultivate the next generation of architectural leaders who will shape the future of our built environment.

Vision:

BAYA’s vision is to be the leading catalyst for the development and success of young architects, serving as a dynamic platform that bridges education, practice, and community engagement. They envision a future where every emerging architect is empowered to thrive, contribute meaningfully to the architectural field, and inspire positive change in the built environment. Through their commitment to collaboration, and inclusivity, they aspire to shape a new era of architecture that is diverse, sustainable, and socially responsible.

Get Involved:

Engaging with BAYA is best experienced through their in-person events. These gatherings provide an exceptional opportunity to connect with fellow professionals, expand your network, and discover the myriad benefits BAYA has in store for you.

Aditi Gupta, a designer at VMWP and the 2024 BAYA admin chair, said that “After having moved to San Francisco during the pandemic and working fully remote, BAYA was instrumental in gaining career perspective and getting involved with the city’s architecture community.”

BAYA’s calendar is filled with monthly events across the city, ranging from firm tours and mixers to portfolio review workshops, and other events throughout the year. These events offer the opportunity for young architects to learn about different practices in the city while also affording firms the chance to scout new talent and forge valuable connections.

Learn about BAYA’s latest events through their social media channels: InstagramLinkedIn, or Facebook.
