Montbello FreshLo HUB has been awarded the 2025 Housing Colorado Eagle Award

Sponsored by Housing Colorado , the Eagle Awards are presented annually and represent the best of what the affordable housing industry has to offer. With three categories of awards, the Eagle Awards recognize a diverse cross-section of the people, programs, and projects that are making a difference in the lives of low- to moderate-income families across the state.

Montbello FreshLo Hub is an initiative of the Montbello Organizing Committee and provides 97 units of affordable housing (1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom apartments at 30% – 70% AMI. Completed in August 2024, the units were completely leased by February 2025. Also included in the project at WellPower Mental Health Center, MOC’s business incubator, and Ariel’s Cafe, a locally owned coffee shop. The next phases of the Initiative include the development of the Montbello Fresh Food Market and the FreshLo Arts Education Center.

The Eagle Award recognizes the outstanding work of all the partners, including Flo Development Services; Alliance Construction Solutions; Gilmore Construction Corporation; Roybal Corporation, Van Meter Williams Pollack LLP Milgrom Daskam & Ellis, Staro Insights, and S.B. Clark Financial Services.

This prestigious award celebrates the extraordinary accomplishments and outstanding leadership in housing and support services. The award honors individuals, agencies, projects, and programs that soar to new heights in their work to ensure safe, fair, affordable housing for all Coloradans.

Winners are chosen by an industry-diverse selection committee. Awards will be presented at the Eagle Awards Ceremony. All nominees are recognized during the ceremony and on Housing Colorado’s website. Nominees in the “people” category are allocated 2 complimentary registrations to the awards ceremony. Nominees in the “Programs” and “Projects” category are allocated 1 complementary registration to the ceremony.

About the Montbello FreshLo HUB

 

The mixed-use Denver Montbello FreshLo building redevelops an infill 1.6 acre former RTD bus storage site, that is adjacent to commercial, residential, healthcare and open space uses. The 7-story structure consists of 5 levels of 97 units of family affordable housing in Denver, Colorado.

The above dynamic program engages NE Denver’s Montbello community on many important fronts providing for a series of community-oriented spaces for gatherings, meetings, pop-up retail, and community offices; as well as a critical local need for affordable family housing. Montbello FreshLo is designed to achieve not just multiple community benefits, but also achieve a National Green Building Standard Silver Rating with a full focus on Health and Wellness.

The $40,000,000 Montbello FreshLo project financing synthesizes Low Income Housing Tax Credits with New Market Tax Credits in concert with local City of Denver funding. This project is a partnership between Roybal Architects and VMWP, collaborating with the client team of the Montbello Organizing Committee and Burgess Services.
