DESCRIPTION
Building B is located within the new Transit Oriented Development (TOD) at the El Cerrito Plaza BART station. The TOD housing project is the largest building within the master plan and incorporates 259 units of market rate housing as well as the replacement parking for BART. The seven story building has two levels of parking, with the ground floor dedicated to BART and the upper level dedicated to residents.
The large footprint and massing of this building is broken down architecturally and by the treatments at the ground floor. Human scale with active uses at the street levels with porches and stoops serving townhouses, surround and conceal the two levels of parking. At the same time, above the podium levels, the building is architecturally modulated into separate elements at each façade mitigating its scale.
The building is planned with large amenity spaces including a large courtyard as well as exercise rooms and other amenity rooms. A large amount of bike parking is also being provided with a ratio 1.5 bikes for every unit or almost 400 bikes. The building is planned as modular construction.

VMWP TOD Housing
Our BART transit-oriented developments combine mixed-use and infill development with pedestrian-friendly streets close to public transportation. These comprehensive plans create lively villages that inspire people to buy locally, use more public transit and drive less. Our TOD projects have included land use plans and urban design guidelines, master plans for new mass transit station areas, and infill visions for park-and-ride lots. VMWP also works with municipalities to develop implementation strategies as well as guidelines with which to evaluate development proposals.
