Fountain Street Apartments | St. Helena, CA

Wine Country Family Workforce Housing

The project proposes to construct a 100% residential workforce housing community comprised by approximately 40 workforce rental housing units (including one managers unit), on an approximately 1.8 acre site located on Fountain Street. The project will include associated common area facilities, utilities, parking, landscaping and open space necessary to support the proposed use. The project will consist of three, 3-story buildings of approximately 49,932 sf and will include a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom units ranging in size from approximately 685 sf to 1,150 sf.

The Fountain workforce housing plays an important role defining the Hwy 12 “main street community entry corridor” into town, and is directly across from the Historic St. Helena High School, along the wine train tacks. The design responds with an assembly of three buildings framing a central open space with simple dynamic forms which are emblematic of the wine country’s rural setting. A combination of simple massing and roof forms of gables and parapet roofs, in collaboration with bold charcoal grey end massing and white body colors provide a simplicity and sophistication, desired by the community. massing and white body colors provide a simplicity and sophistication, desired by the community.
